2011 Black & White Scrimmage: The D Force vs. White Zombies III

This Saturday starts off with a head-to-head match that most of us fans only dream about- fantasy roller derby! The White Zombies III take on the “D-Force” of Deadly Derby Divas.

Once each year, the Windy City Rollers give two lucky fans the chance to contribute money to a fantastic charity, and assemble their own roller derby “dream team” to take each other on. Before the Ivy King Cup Championship bout, come see the White Zombies III take on the “D-Force” of Deadly Derby Divas.

Team Captains bid online for the chance to draft their favorite girls, and this year pits veteran Captain Joe Klug (who has captained the white team for the last three years!) against long-time derby fan and first-time Captain, Midnight Rain (also known as Ed Kolozsy). All proceeds from this special auction go to support Tequila Mockingbird, a veteran roller derby player who was seriously injured in 2007. The two Captains, along with WCR bench coaches Blossum Bruiso, Sassy Squash and Howie Rollson, selected their team rosters from the third and fourth place WCR home teams, as well as the All-Star travel team and the Haymarket Rioters farm team. The resulting teams, many of whom have been playing against each other all season, or have yet to play a full bout, must become a team in less than three weeks. The teams are given the chance to practice, but will not face each other directly until Saturday's bout.

Black Team Captain Midnight Rain was thrilled to be involved with derby on this level, saying, “At our second scrimmage, we saw a night and day difference -- if we made that much progress from just one practice I cannot wait...to see what two will do. Saturday cannot come fast enough for me!”

Make sure to come early on Saturday to get a good seat, as many skaters will be making their UIC debut, and some old favorites are returning from the bench to take each other down! And then stay for Championship bout between The Fury and Manic Attackers.
